Exchanges in landscape design: Denmark and Sweden Anna Jakobsson (SLU Alnarp)

The Danish journal of landscape design and planning Havekunst (Garden Art), was published from 1920 until 1968, and served as an important arena for the exchange of ideas for professionals in the other Scandinavian countries, who lacked their own publication,. The journal’s board comprised both a Danish editorial group and a Swedish co-editor, a composition that insured the exchange of landscape ideas between the two countries. The presentation will begin with a discussion of the debates and presentations of projects which appeared in the journal between 1945 and the termination of its publication. Among those landscape designers whose work and ideas presented in Havekunst were the Danes C. Th. Sörensen and Troels Erstad; and from Sweden, Erik Glemme, Ulla Bodorff, Sven Hermelin, Inger Wedborn, Sven-Ingvar Andersson, and Per Friberg—all of whom played significant positions in the landscape architecture profession in their respective countries.
